A man named Samuel Menyongar came to talk about his life and sierra leone. We raised 1,700 last year to help build a well to help get clean water to people who didn't get clean water we gave the check to him as a surprise. He also talked about how deadly the dirty water could be. Samuel lived in Liberia until that country's civil war started. He and his brother escaped to sierra leone, but Sam's brother got killed in the process. Samuel lives in sierra leone now, and he comes to the U.S. to talk about how people need water and about his life. samuel came this july and was stuck here because the Ebola virus. His family is still in sierra leone and Sam is doing everything can to get back to them.
He quoted "Be the change you wish to see in the world" I think that means that you should make change, and not rely on other people to make change. In this case we want to get wells in africa so we can raise money to build wells. samuel also talked about how the schools were like, I was startled about how you had to pay money for school and they were not even given supplies. Samuel said that americans can be generous and and some can be kind of selfish. I think we need a little entertainment and fun, but you should donate a little to. One thing I like to do is free rice, when you answer a problem correctly you donate 10 grains of rice to people that need food.
